OUR MISSION

Our Groups

As the main idea is ‘Early intervention’ @ the pre-primary level and ‘Bridging the gap’ at the primary level, our classrooms are divided based on the following age groups.

Buds – pre-primary group - 2½ to 6 years old
Blooms – lower primary group – 6+ to 9 years old
Blossoms – upper primary group – 9+ to 12 years old

Curriculum

The curriculum is together formed by the Developmental and Academic ladders.
Developmental ladder: defined broadly by the child’s motor, self-care, behaviour, social and communication skills, will evolve based on the assessments by the therapists and classroom observations of the teacher.
Academic ladder: based on the British curriculum, following an assessment of the child’s current levels in the academic areas of Literacy and Maths.

3 PART PROGRAM: Learning, Intervention, Development (LID)

Learning: Hands-on and multisensory methods along with relevant teaching materials are used. Apart from literacy, maths, learning at FIS also involves science, humanities, art, cooking, music, gardening activities. Themes Of Learning (TOL) are planned based on the time of the year to enable real-time experiences, for example, in the months of November-December, more winter oriented topics are done while around March-April Springy topics take the focus. TOL enables children to put their learning into practice. Two school trips are planned through the year based on the ongoing topics.

Intervention: Occupational Therapy, Speech Therapy and Psychological intervention happens during the school day. The requirement of a particular intervention and number of weekly therapy sessions are based on the initial assessment, therapist’s recommendation and confirmation from the parent. There is always team-sharing between the therapists and teachers, in order to blend the goals and techniques to achieve the goal of holistic development!

Development: Age-appropriate and independent performance in skills like, self-care, behaviour and play are of prime importance. Hence, behavioural interventions, outdoor/ indoor play-time, yoga, reading hub, peer-sharing skills are an indispensable part of our school day and become part of the ILP as well.

Individualised Learning Plan (ILP)

Individualised Learning Plan (ILP) - FIS is an ILP-based school. Every child is monitored via an ILP, which is a comprehensive document that brings all the above key areas (LID) together. Each of the area is divided into sub-areas with clear goals targeted for every child, based on the child's base line of functioning. There are 3 meetings in a school year with the parents, where the goals and progress updates are discussed. Every team member working with the child contributes to the ILP and coordinates his/her approach with the rest of the team, hence strengthening the child-centered approach.

Parent(s) involvement

Parents form a crucial part of the team. The therapeutic approach and techniques implemented in school form the 'Tool Kit' for every child to unlock its potential. Hence, the 'Tool Kit' is shared with the parents to carry on the same at home and other environments as well. This renders the much needed consistency in the child's life, which in turn, speeds up the learning and development.
